Rhodonite beads are one such variety, whose hues are from pink to purplish red, most often they naturally contain black veins or splotches. Like other major gemstones, Rhodonite too got its name from the Greek word for rose, “rhodon”. Sometime due to its rose-pink color this gemstone may be confused with another jewel known as Rhodochrosite. But there is one difference before any confusion prevails. Rhodochrosite beads are splashed with white, while Rhodonite beads with black manganese.

On catching a close look at this gemstone you will appreciate its appearance which shows hues of pink having black veins meandering here and there, showing as if they forgot their path. But at times you may come across pure pink shade beads. Rhodonite gemstone are cut and used in such a way to create eye-catching beads, carvings and other marvelous designs.

Rhodonite contains properties of a translucent to opaque but a lot of crystal clear stones have also been discovered which were used as a face-lifting material. Due to its exceptional beauty this stone has also been used for architectural purposes besides having been used in jewelry.

Rhodonite was first used in Russia as far as its usage in jewelry is concerned. Did you know that this gemstone was one of the favorites with Czars? If you have read historical facts you will come to know that Russian nobles wore the lavish pieces made from this mineral stone. The abundance of this gemstone was found in rural Russia also.
