HOW DID THE GEMS GET THEIR NAMES?

Part 2

Last week we talked about how gems got their TRUE NAMES.  Many gems, natural, synthetic, or imitation, have FALSE NAMES, too. This set of names developed because of confusion among similar looking gems, old or new local gem names, and questionable dealers who try to make an extra buck by using misleading names.  Many of these false names have become so ingrained in the industry that they've become their own standard, and many buyers and sellers only know these gems by their false names. Here at Houseofgems.com we try to present our gems by their true names, but because so many clients only know the pseudonyms we are forced to list some beads by their false names, too. Below we've listed many of the false names that we might find, along with their correct names or make up:
