Ocean Jasper Beads makes us think of the beautiful smooth stones that wash up on the beach. Our polished Ocean Jasper come in soft shades of gray, green, blue, cream, black, and tan. String them together or with agates, turquoise, or jade for jewelry that will remind you of sea and sand.
Ocean Jasper is, indeed, found by the sea. It comes from the northwest coast of Madagascar and can only be collected at low tide. Though called jasper, it’s a translucent stone, which technically makes it an agate. Agates are translucent while jaspers are opaque. Both are forms of chalcedony, a fine-grained quartz.
Ocean Jasper is an orbicular jasper, meaning that it contains spherical inclusions. It’s a fairly hard stone—6 ½ - 7 on Mohs’ scale—and can be safely worn in just about any piece of jewelry. |
